Fact file
Project: Hemcrete studio, Wellington
Location: Rural
Construction brief: Install Hemcrete into timber frame, render exterior of building, plaster interior.
Duration: Three weeks total, one month gap between Hemcrete installation and rendering.
Special considerations: The main dwelling was a traditional cottage and although a contemporary feel was sought from the studio it should not be so square as to be completely different from the main house.
Project case notes:
Despite the horrendous weather experienced this summer, the 127m² of Hemcrete was installed in just over four days.
This was left for about a month before the lime render was sprayed on the exterior.
Again, this was completed quickly, taking only 5 days for 88m² of the external walls.
This is a great demonstration of how fast and effective these materials are, a far cry from most people's perceptions.
